Deputy to the National People’s Congress Wu Xiangdong’s Opinion:Far from Smog through Accelerating
2015-03-19
On March 11, 2015, Wu Xiangdong, Deputy to the National People’s Congress and Chairman of VATS GROUP accepted joint interviews from dozens of media. He said he proposed during the NPC&CPPCC that China should accelerate to popularize new energy automobiles to alleviate urban smog.
Reporter: During the NPC&CPPCC, many people are talking about weather, and what’s your opinion on air pollution?
Wu Xiangdong: In recent years, I have been focusing on food safety and “smog” problem during the NPC&CPPCC and beyond. I think the smog is the result of excessive
automobiles in cities and excessive oil consumption. For example in Beijing, more than 10 million automobile engines are working every day, thus smog is easily produced if without wind.
Therefore, I call for great promotion of new energy automobiles across China. At present, our country has fallen behind Japan and developed countries in Europe and America in this aspect. And we have been slow in charging equipment, R&D and promotion of new energy engines. As far as I know, the technology in this aspect has been developed rapidly, such as charging technology by graphene battery, 1000km can be continued moving after being charged for 8 minutes. Urban smog will be significantly alleviated if we can accelerate R&D, promotion and application of new energy automobiles.
